FAQ
Choosing Your Rooftop Tent
Which CSS Touring rooftop tent is right for me?
Our rooftop tents are designed around different priorities, so the best model depends on your vehicle, available roof load, sleeping requirements and the features you're looking for.
Our Standard, Pro and X models each offer something slightly different. The Standard is a great option for customers wanting a lightweight and practical rooftop tent, while the Pro uses a slightly thicker frame, allowing for additional room for storing bedding. The X model uses an X-hinge mechanism to create increased internal space when the tent is set up.
We also offer other models, including our Advanced (side opening), Forged Carbon Fibre and Slim model rooftop tents.
If you're unsure which model is right for you, please don't hesitate to contact our team and we'll help point you in the right direction!
What's the difference between the Standard, Pro and X model tents?
The main differences between our Standard, Pro and X model rooftop tents come down to the frame construction, internal room and opening mechanism.
Standard:
Our Standard model is designed to provide a practical, lightweight rooftop tent setup while still offering great comfort and functionality. It is the lightest option of the three and provides enough internal clearance to comfortably store 2 memory foam pillows and a double sized doona or sleeping bags when closed.
Pro:
The standout feature of our Pro model is its slightly thicker and stronger frame. This makes it better suited to safely mount an awning to the side of the tent using our awning brackets.
The Pro model is 25mm thicker than the Standard, which also gives you additional internal room for stroing bedding while the tent is closed. You can comfortably fit the same bedding as the Standard, plus a little more - such as an additional blanket.
The Pro is approximately 10–11kg heavier than the Standard and is $300 more expensive.
X:
Our X model uses the same frame and shell as the Pro, but features an X-hinge mechanism that allows the tent to open taller and creates increased internal space when set up. This means that the features of our Pro tent mentioned above also apply to our X tent.
The opposite end of the tent also tapers outwards rather than inwards like our other traditional clamshell style tents. This provides increased headroom and footroom while the tent is open.
The X model is $300 more expensive than the Pro model.

What's the difference between the 1.3 and 1.4?
The main difference is width. There is also a $200 price difference between our 1.3 and 1.4 sizes.
Our Standard, Pro and X model rooftop tents in the 1.3 size is 1330mm wide externally, while the 1.4 sizes are 1460mm wide externally.
Our Forged Carbon Fibre and Slim model rooftop tents in the 1.3 size are 1300mm wide externally, while the 1.4 sizes are 1450mm wide externally.
Both sizes are designed to comfortably accommodate two adults, with the 1.4 giving you a little more room. The length of our rooftop tents remains the same for our 1.3 and 1.4 sizes.
How many people can sleep in a CSS Touring rooftop tent?
Our rooftop tents are designed primarily for two adults.
The 1.4 models provide additional internal width compared with the 1.3 models, making them a great choice if you prefer a little more room, although the 1.3 can still comfortably sleep two adults.
Can I leave my bedding inside the tent while closed?
Yes, on selected models. The amount of bedding you can leave inside the tent depends on the model.
Our Standard model rooftop tents can comfortably be closed with 2 memory foam pillows and a double sized doona or sleeping bag.
Our Pro and X model rooftop tents are 25mm thicker than the Standard, giving you additional internal clearance. You can comfortably fit the same bedding as the Standard, plus a little more - such as an additional blanket or mattress topper.
Our Forged Carbon Fibre and Slim rooftop tents are designed to be extremely thin, so unfortunately they do not allow bedding to be stored inside while the tent is closed.
What sort of mattress comes included with a CSS Touring rooftop tent?
Our Standard, Pro and X model rooftop tents come with a 40D 80mm eggshell memory foam mattress designed to provide a comfortable night's sleep.
Our 1.5 Advanced (tub style) rooftop tent comes with a 40D 50mm memory foam mattresses.

Orders, Pre-Orders & Payment
What does "Pre-Order" mean?
A pre-order allows you to secure a rooftop tent from an upcoming shipment before the stock arrives.
Once the shipment arrives, we'll contact you to arrange collection or delivery and finalise any remaining balance where applicable.
Is the pre-order ETA guaranteed?
Unfortunately not.
Pre-order ETAs are estimates and may change due to manufacturing, shipping or other unexpected delays.
We'll keep you updated if there are significant changes to the expected arrival timeframe.
What happens after I place a pre-order?
Once your pre-order has been placed, your tent is secured from the upcoming shipment of that particular item. When stock arrives, we'll contact you to arrange collection or delivery and provide an updated invoice where applicable.
Pre-orders are fully refundable for any change of mind or circumstances anytime before your item has been collected or shipped out to you.
Can I pay a deposit instead of paying in full?
Selected rooftop tent models are available with a $100 deposit option. The remaining balance is then arranged once the stock arrives.

Unfortunately, we don't currently offer payment plans. We do however offer Afterpay in-store only. Please note that Afterpay transactions incur a 5% surcharge.
What payment options are available?
We accept cash and card payments in-store. We also accept card payments through our website and over the phone. We accept a variety of cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Can I change my rooftop tent model after placing an order?
Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to make a change. Whether a change can be made will depend on the status of your order and stock availability. If your rooftop tent has already been received and the box has been opened, we unfortunately cannot offer an exchange, so please ensure you are ordering the correct model. However, if your order has not yet been collected or shipped, we can definitely swap you over to the model you would prefer, although we cannot guarantee that the alternative model will be readily available at the time of the change.
What happens if my pre-order is delayed?
We completely understand that delays can be frustrating. Unfortunately, delays can sometimes unexpectedly occur due to factors outside of our control, such as production or shipping. If we are made aware that the expected arrival date changes, we'll keep you informed and provide an updated ETA as soon as one is available to us.

Installation & Mounting
Do you offer installation services?
At this point in time, we unfortunately do not offer installation services, and we do not allow on site installation at our stores.
We do however have a forklift on site and are more than happy to assist with loading a rooftop tent or awning in its box onto or into your vehicle or trailer.
Depending on your location, we may be able to recommend a suitable place for installation, so feel free to contact us to see if we can help out with that.
If I direct-mount my tent or drill through the floor, will I void my warranty?
Yes, any drilling through the base of the rooftop tent or any modifications/adjustments made to the mounting rails underneath the rooftop tent will void the tent's warranty.
Can I install the rooftop tent or awning myself?
Yes! Our rooftop tents and awnings are supplied with the relevant mounting brackets, hardware and installation information to assist with installation for majority of setups.
If you're not confident installing the tent or awning yourself, we recommend using a qualified professional or experienced 4WD accessory fitter.
If you're unsure of anything, please feel free to contact us with a photo of your setup and we'd be more than happy to help!
Is it okay for the rooftop tent to have no support in the middle?
Yes, this is okay provided the two mounting rails underneath our rooftop tents are not removed or modified in any way. Our rooftop tents are fitted with two 1920mm long unistrut mounting rails on the underside of the tent, which provide structural support and help prevent the tent from bowing or flexing in the middle.
What is the minimum mounting distance on your rooftop tents?
The minimum required mounting distance between the two fixing points on our rooftop tents is 850mm.
What is the maximum overhang I can have when mounting your rooftop tents?
At the front of the tent, we recommend a maximum overhang of 500mm, and at the rear of the tent (where your back entrance is), we recommend having no more than 200mm of overhang.
Do you sell mounting systems?
While our rooftop tents and awnings come with their relevant mounting kits, including brackets and hardware, we do not sell vehicle mounting systems such as roof racks, roof bars or cross bars. This is something that will need to be sourced separately to suit your particular vehicle.
Will a CSS Touring rooftop tent fit my vehicle, and how do I know if my vehicle can carry it?
CSS Touring rooftop tents and awnings can be fitted to a wide range of 4WD's, utes and trailer setups.
Compatibility will however depend on your vehicle’s roof load rating, roof rack/bar/canopy setup and the total weight of your chosen configuration.
To determine if your vehicle can safely carry the tent, you’ll need to check your vehicle manufacturer’s roof load rating as well as the specifications of your roof racks or mounting system. It’s important to consider the complete setup and not just the weight of the tent.
If you’re unsure of anything, feel free to contact us with a photo of your setup and we’ll offer you as much as advice as possible.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
We're happy to help! If you can't find the answer you're looking for, feel free to get in touch with the CSS Touring team directly.
